All of our Advent activities have gotten me thinking about Mary. It amazes me that a young girl could have as much faith as Mary had. Just think back to that scene. An angel came to Mary and told her that she would become pregnant even though she was a virgin. Here is the exchange:

The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.’
‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May it be to me as you have said.’
Then the angel left her.
Luke 1:35-38

Mary’s faith is inspiring and unbelievable. She offers herself as a living sacrifice to God knowing that a scandal would erupt because she was not married. This is a true picture of obedience!

I have not typically been like Mary. It was difficult for me to have faith that God would bless me with a child when E and I were trying to conceive. When you are waiting for that kind of a gift from God, it seems like it is impossible. This Scripture reminds me of three important lessons. God is in control. He CAN do anything. And I HAVE to obey.

I am aspiring to be like Mary. Are you?
